Univision is pulling no punches in its quest to have the Biden administration put an end to Title 42, thus ending the deportation of undocumented immigrants attempting to enter the nation illegally, regardless of the fact that the measure was established during the pandemic as a means to control the spread of the coronavirus in the United States.
Take a look at this report that aired over the network's midday news edition, Noticiero Univisión Ditigal, on October 1, 2021, and which possibly marks a new chapter in their role as a pro-immigration PAC with a broadcast license:
BORJA VOCES: Now Ezequiel, let's talk about another topic with which we have opened the newscast. The immediate expulsions of families. This court of appeals is sheltered precisely by Title 42, which were measures taken to fight the pandemic. But are there any exceptions under this program? This title 42?
EZEQUIEL HERNÁNDEZ: Yes, there is one, well, there are a number of exceptions and it is a very generic, very broad term, that is, vulnerable people. We are talking about people who have - there we have it in the screen- right now, medical factors, elderly people, and people who have been... well, um, victims of organized crime. But it goes beyond the exceptions. I think justifying title 42 with COVID was more than anything, a tool that in the era President Trump used to strike (immigrants) without taking into account their reasons for requesting asylum, and I believe that President Biden can make a decision not to use that tool.
Voces quickly frames the report by asking the Univision´s frequent contributor, immigration attorney Ezequiel Hernández, to explain who can circumvent Title 42 to evade deportations and stay in the U.S. That the measure was established to safeguard AMERICAN CITIZENS from contacting COVID-19 means nothing to the ´expert´ who went on to claim- with no pushback from Voces- that Title 42 was, more than anything, was "a tool that President Trump used to bash (immigrants), without taking into account their reasons for requesting asylum."
So, it turns out that all the fear mongering about COVID, all the demonization of those who oppose the vaccines, all the allegiance to mask and vaccine mandates- is in fact, much ado about nothing given that their open-border advocacy takes precedence over public health.
Once more, Univision acts as an ICE coach for undocumented immigrants set on finding loopholes to beat the system with an on-screen list of exceptions for Title 42: "medical factors, elderly people, and people who have been... well, um, victims of organized crime." In other words, everybody, at least everybody that stops to speak to the reporters covering migration at the southern border.
The closing call to action by Hernandez, speaks volumes about what this report was all about: "...President Biden can make a decision not to use that tool (Title 42).”
