PRIDE: Univision Now Normalizes INCEST

June 23rd, 2022 2:55 PM

Univision’s homage to Pride Month took a bizarre twist at the network’s midday news edition with its mandatory inclusivity story of the day and, lo and behold, they just about added a new letter to the ever growing LGBTQIA2S+ acronym: “I” for INCEST.

Speaking under a ´Trending!´ screen graphic and lovey dovey visuals, anchor Carolina Sarassa, of Noticiero Univision: Edición Digital, warmly delivered the story of Carley and Mercedes, a same sex couple of TikTok influencers, who just discovered that they could be real-life sisters.

NOTICIERO UNIVISION, EDICIÓN DIGITAL 6/22/2022:

CAROLINA SARASA: Meanwhile, another story that went viral. It's about a pair of girlfriends, well-known on TikTok, who got a bit of shocking news. Carley and Mercedes just learned, two years into their relationship, that they could be sisters after their mothers told them that they dated the same man. And to rule it out, they are asking their followers to support them, and they will now take a DNA test.

We've got news for you, Univision. Incest, far from cute or normal, is a statutory crime. Even in this case, where the women were apparently unaware of the possibility of being siblings until “their mothers told them that they dated the same man”, this bit of information fails to merit the sympathy or support of Univision´s audience; as conveyed by Sarassa, “they are asking their followers to support them.”

Normalizing incest has no place in the news. And while Pride Month, like every other commercial Hallmark holiday/celebration, translates into media advertising dollars at the networks, the content editors at Univision have the responsibility to do better in their search for relevant material meant to appease the sponsors.
