Over the past couple of days, the dominant left-leaning media have again demonstrated a tendency to ignore gun owners who intervene to fight back against violent criminals as most national news shows ignored the fact that an alleged gunman in Louisville, Kentucky, Steven Lopez, was taken down by a bystander with a gun who shot him in the leg.
So far, Fox News Channel's Fox & Friends is the only national news show to inform their viewers of this key detail of a story about one of the liberal protest gatherings that got out of hand.
On Monday morning, Fox news reader Gillian Mele recalled, "A protester now charged with murder in a deadly shooting at a Louisville demonstration," and, after video from the shootout, added: "Steven Lopez is accused of firing on the crowd. He was arrested and hospitalized after being shot by a bystander. Lopez had been arrested at another protest less than two weeks ago."
On Sunday's NBC Nightly News, correspondent Kathy Park recalled that Lopez was in the hospital under arrest, but did not divulge any details on who was responsible for putting him there by confronting him:
A witness capturing the chaos Saturday night after the gunman appears to fire several shots into the crowd, sending people scrambling for cover. Police say 27-year-old victim Tyler Gerth died last night, and a second victim is recovering. The gunman is in custody at a local hospital. Police did not release the suspect's name.
On Monday morning's First Look on MSNBC, anchor Yasmin Vossoughian similarly noted that the gunman was being held at the hospital without clarifying who was responsible for putting him there.
On Sunday's World News Tonight, ABC correspondent Janai Norman gave no details on how the alleged gunman was stopped as she recounted:
A witness capturing the chaos Saturday night after the gunman appears to fire several shots into the crowd, sending people scrambling for cover. Police say 27-year-old victim Tyler Gerth died last night, and a second victim is recovering. The gunman is in custody at a local hospital. Police did not release the suspect's name.
On the CBS Weekend News, anchor Jamie Yuccas only ran a brief on the story:
New protests this weekend over racism and police brutality sparked by the death of George Floyd. At least two ended violently. In Louisville, Kentucky, a gunman opened fire on a group of demonstrators demanding justice for Breonna Taylor. One man was killed, another person wounded.
