A broken clock is right twice a day, right? Well it appears on Monday’s edition of Morning Joe that MSNBC host Joe Scarborough watered his long-neglected and often-forgotten blue collar roots. Firstly, he reminded the largely anti-Trump audience of Sunday night's Tony Awards that the “low light of the evening” was “brought to you by Robert de Niro.” Scarborough explained that “we will not actually play that clip" of the actor's profanity-laden rant against the President at the event, "even with the seven-second delay”
Equally important, with nods of approval and verbal affirmation, fellow host (and fiancé) Mika Brezezinski and reporter Kasie Hunt agreed with Joe’s heartfelt scrutiny.
As the Hollywood elite rejoiced with other coastal elitists, Scarborough reminded his largely homogeneous liberal audience: “People that applauded De Niro's statement last night don't understand that they are helping Donald Trump's reelection every time they do something like that, they don't understand.” Hunt replied: "If your goal, as Robert de Niro's goal is, to take down the president, it's the wrong way to do it. You're playing into his hands." Brezinski echoed Scarborough: "You’ll get him re-elected."
In a rare glimpse of impartiality and veracity, even the liberal MSNBC hosts could admit that De Niro's offensive commentary wasn't helpful.
Morning Joe
6/11/18
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: The low light of the evening brought to you by Robert de Niro and we will not actually play that clip even with the seven-second delay.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: The kids again amazing and above it all.
SCARBOROUGH: Kids were remarkable. Steve Schmidt said this about the Robert de Niro moment. He said "The greatest actor of his generation could have said something important, he could have defended liberal democracy or freedom of speech and expression. He could have stood for decency. Instead he strengthened trump's hand by mirroring the debasement of our culture, be better." Which, of course, Kasie, that brings to light the whole Michelle Obama idea when they go low, we go high. People have mistaken that for weakness. I suppose Donald Trump would mistake Jesus saying "Blessed are the meek" as a sign of weakness but it's just saying you have to be better.
BRZEZINSKI: Like the kids at parkland.
SCARBOROUGH: And it's people that applauded de Niro's statement last night don't understand that they are helping Donald Trump's reelection every time they do something like that, they don't understand.
KASIE HUNT: If your goal as Robert de Niro's goal is to take down the president, it's the wrong way to do it. You're playing into his hands.
BRZEZINSKI: You’ll get him re-elected.
