You can’t make it up. Former President Donald Trump wins the Iowa Caucuses in a blowout, winning 51% of the vote, 30 points ahead. But when he arrives to give the traditional televised thank-you victory speech, MSNBC blacked him out. CNN gave him a few minutes before dumping out. Usually, they're not that generous.
Which in turn sends an important message to the American people. Namely, that the mainstream media is going to make it their business to censor what can and cannot be heard from Trump in the 2024 campaign.
Which in turn, with considerable and amusing irony, surely qualifies this business as an “in kind contribution” to Trump’s campaign.
While the once revered idea of a just-the-facts journalism is long gone, throttled to death by the flood of leftists into the once “mainstream” media, what is now being added is outright censorship. Accompanied, in the case of MSNBC, by outright lying from host Rachel Maddow.
There was Maddow the other night, explaining that MSNBC would not cover Trump’s victory statement. Why?
As Nick Fondacaro noted here at NewsBusters, Maddow’s explanation was this:
There is a reason that we and other news organizations have generally stopped giving an unfiltered, live platform to remarks by former President Trump. It is not out of spite, it is not a decision that we relish, it is a decision that we regularly revisit. And, honestly, earnestly, it is not an easy decision. But there is a cost to us, as a news organization, of knowingly broadcasting untrue things. That is a fundamental truth of our business and who we are.
Amazing, yes? There is Rachel Maddow, she who has in much documented fashion blatantly told her own ‘litany of lies and false accusations” time after time after time.
Just this one story alone in 2017 from The Intercept illustrates vividly how Maddow took to MSNBC air to repeatedly push the massive lie of Trump-Russia collusion. They were refuting Maddow in real time:
Maddow’s foremost concern has been alleged Trump-Moscow collusion, which she has repeatedly suggested has continued beyond the election.
Here she is on March 9 of President Trump's first year:
"What’s getting to be, I think, particularly unsettling, is that simultaneously, we are … number one, nailing down more direct connections between the Trump campaign and the Russian government at the time the Russian government was influencing our election. Number two, at the same time, we are also starting to see what may be signs of continuing influence in our country. Not just during the campaign but during the administration. Basically, signs of what could be a continuing operation."
Maddow has acknowledged that allegations of Trump-Russia collusion are unverified. But she has ignored claims that cast them in a more skeptical light. For instance, James Clapper, the former Director of National Intelligence, told NBC News on March 5, that U.S. intelligence has “no evidence” of collusion between Trump and Russia. On March 15, former CIA Director and Hillary Clinton surrogate Michael Morrell said “there is smoke, but there is no fire, at all.” Those statements have gone unmentioned.
Bad enough that Maddow, her network and the Left-leaning media in general spent an eternity telling blatant untruths about Trump to their audience.
Now this appears to be getting worse - with MSNBC and CNN deliberately censoring the leading GOP presidential candidate. And if they can do it to Trump, they can do it to anyone.
There is an irony here. Which is to say, the American people are on to the game.
As has been seen with the raft of Trump indictments, the more the American Establishment targets Trump, the higher his polls. The mere fact that the American people will understand that the Establishment media is deliberately censoring Trump is a pretty good certainty that they will rally to Trump - just as they did this last week in Iowa.
Thus the irony. The behavior of MSNBC and CNN in censoring Trump can backfire and play a serious role in electing Trump.
