AWFUL: CBS Turns Trump Interview Into Planned Parenthood Infomercial

August 19th, 2024 8:34 PM

When watching CBS News Political Correspondent Caitlin Huey-Burns’s interview of former President Donald Trump, with its disproportionate advocacy for abortion, one is reminded of that classic meme featuring a MEMRI-translated still of Egyptian journalist Tamer Amin who said, reacting to news coverage of a pornography scandal:If you call this journalism, I swear by Allah that I will shoot myself right here.”

Watch as Huey-Burns asks Trump about whether or not he will enforce the Comstock Act with regard to the availability of abortion pills:

CBS NEWS 24/7 DAILY REPORT WITH JOHN DICKERSON

8/19/24

6:12 PM

CAITLIN HUEY-BURNS: As president, would you enforce the Comstock Act which could prohibit the sale of- or the distribution of medication abortion by mail?

DONALD TRUMP: No. We will be discussing specifics of it, but generally speaking, no, I would not.

HUEY-BURNS: You would not enforce the Comstock Act?

TRUMP: I would not do that.

HUEY-BURNS: Should medication abortion be widely available?

TRUMP: Well, it's going to be available. It is now. As I know it, the Supreme Court has said “keep it going the way it is”. I will enforce and agree with the Supreme Court, but basically, they’ve said keep it the way it is now.

This is what closed out the broadcast portion of the interview, which consisted of questions on the following:

  • Election results acceptance
  • Election results acceptance (follow)
  • Post-assassination attempt PTSD
  • Post-assassination attempt PTSD (follow)
  • List of potential SCOTUS nominees
  • Regrets over repeal of Roe
  • Regrets over repeal of Roe (follow)
  • Comstock Act enforcement
  • Comstock Act enforcement (follow)

It bears noting that Trump’s statements in Pennsylvania were about inflation and the economy: the top two issues of importance to voters according to CBS’s own pre-DNC polling. Abortion ranked 7th, but was the bulk of Huey-Burns’s questioning of Trump.

In effect, Huey-Burns went out there to carry Kamala Harris’s water on abortion. Also take note of the sneaky questions on post-assassination PTSD: a backdoor attempt to suggest Trump might be unwell:

Again, there was 10 minutes of this on CBS News 24/7- an in-kind donation to the Harris campaign ahead of the DNC, and this is just Day One. Lest you be tempted to feel any sort of way for my colleagues and I who watch this dreck on a daily basis, I’ll remind you of the words of Hyman Roth to Don Michael Corleone:

This is the business we’ve chosen.
