MSNBC’s Joyless Reid Joins Elon Musk Nazi Salute Hoax

January 22nd, 2025 8:55 PM

No dumb media hoax is complete until MSNBC’s resident bitter race arsonist jumps into the pile-on. Thus, Joy Reid has entered into the debunked and defamatory narrative suggesting that Elon Musk performed a Nazi salute during President Trump’s inaugural festivities.

Watch as Reid submit her entry in the race to the bottom, perhaps, of some punitive damages:

MSNBC THE REIDOUT

7:02 PM

JOY REID: It was just a bizarre day from start to finish, frankly, with this remarkable scene from Elon Musk where he made a very suggestive hand gesture.

ELON MUSK: And I just want to say thank you for making it happen. Thank you. Thank you.

REID: Well, that moment has gone viral, and even made it into the confirmation hearing this morning for Trump's pick for U.N. Ambassador, Elise Stefanik.

CHRIS MURPHY: What do you think of Elon Musk, perhaps the president's most visible adviser, doing two Heil Hitler salutes last night at the president's televised rally?

ELISE STEFANIK: No, Elon Musk did not do those salutes. I was not at the rally. But I can tell you, I've been at many rallies with Elon Musk, who loves to cheer when President Trump says we need to send, you know, our U.S. space program to Mars. Elon Musk is a visionary.

REID: Now it’s about Mars. Hmmm.

Reid joins CNN anchors Erin Burnett and Kasie Hunt in trying to get around defamation by only showing half the clip while not directly saying “Nazi.” In the CNN hosts’ case (mostly Hunt) they dance around using the word by making all manner of inferences, historic and otherwise. As we noted at the time:

They point out the following, in order: The “salute” is “odd-looking” and “evocative of things that we have seen throughout history.” What things? It is at this point that Hunt helpfully points out that Musk has stated support for Alternative for Germany (AfD), which she calls “a far-right party.” So, weird “salute” and German far-right, clumsily strung together. Burnett then further expounds on the weirdness of the “salute” before Hunt points out that it is not often seen at American political rallies.

Reid avoids all that by throwing to a clip of Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) saying “Nazi”. No subtlety there.

One almost has to admire Reid’s steadfast refusal to be anything other than what she is, even in the face of cratering ratings. But in fairness, that’s a problem for the next person to be stuck running MSNBC. In the meantime, the network will stumble on, from hoax to hoax as they try to regain their footing in the fevered swamps of Resistance Media.
