If you were hoping the Miley Cyrus VMAs fiasco reflected a temporary, er, lapse in the singer’s judgment, her new music video, “Wrecking Ball,” should demolish those hopes.
In the video released Monday, the former Disney darling donned a belly-baring top with underpants for a make-out session with a sledgehammer – before stripping naked. The song served as the second promotional single for Cyrus’ latest album “Bangerz,” set for release October 8.
The only explanation for Cyrus’ conduct came from the lyrics: “I came in like a wrecking ball/ I never hit so hard in love/ All I wanted was to break your walls/ All you ever did was wreck me/ Yeah you, you wreck me.”
Yes, someone wrecked her, all right.
The video boasts as director Terry Richardson – an infamous photographer accused repeatedly of sexually exploiting young women in the fashion world. The controversy seemed to only fuel the song’s attraction, with over half a million YouTube views by the end of Monday (and 40 million by Wednesday morning).
Cyrus recently stole headlines for her VMAs performance, complete with foam finger “twerking.”
