For some reason, Bernie Sanders agreed to appear on The View Tuesday morning, after already facing hostile questions from the panel in previous interviews. He was in for another confrontational conversation, where each host grilled him on why he hadn’t dropped out of the race already. Clinton defender Joy Behar pressured Sanders to stop attacking Clinton and start defending her against Trump instead.
The panel hammered Sanders repeatedly to explain why he was still in the race. Paula Faris even asked, “Do you concede that you are harming the party by staying in this?” While Joy Behar asserted that Sanders was helping Trump become the next president.
JOY BEHAR: But you know what, here's the thing, Bernie. Senator Sanders, you know, if you lose the nomination, if you lose the nomination which is highly probable at this point, you know, then 20% of your supporters have said they'll vote for Trump over Clinton. I mean, you just said he's a bigot. What do you say to that? How does that make you feel that your supporters could make him the next president?
Faris piped in that Sanders was giving Trump “an arsenal of ammunition” for questioning Hillary Clinton’s judgement. Behar added:
JOY BEHAR: But if you end up losing this delegate race, how do you just endorse Hillary after all the things that you said? What do you do then? You've said some negative things about her. How are you going to walk it back?
Sunny Hostin then essentially asked Sanders to defend Clinton. She asked, Is it “fair” for Trump to “ to go after Mrs. Clinton for what her husband may or may not have done?”
Behar pressed, again, telling Sanders he needed to quit his attacks against Clinton on her war record. “You keep harping on that. Maybe you should let that go already,” Behar urged Sanders, to which he responded in temporary dumbfounded silence.
