To some actors in Hollywood, capitalism is apparently up there with misogyny and bigotry, in the list of the most evil things a candidate can stand for. Actress and author Jamie Lee Curtis, (looking and sounding very much like Rachel Maddow), said as much to Tavis Smiley on his Thursday night PBS show, claiming that Donald Trump represented all these things. Instead, she stated, Hillary stood for “women, children, education and healthcare” so the decision should be a no-brainer for women.
Smiley shifted from talk on Curtis’ new children's book that promotes accepting Syrian refugees into America, to talk about the 2016 election and Donald Trump’s position with women voters. He asked:
TAVIS SMILEY: And this is not a softball I really want to get your take on this, which is if you were a woman, I had Ann Coulter on this program the debate after the day, just to get her take on this, if you were a woman and you heard the way Hillary made that case about his misogyny, how does a woman still consider him as a legitimate candidate?
Curtis appeared baffled and replied, “I have no idea. I just don’t get it.”
She added:
CURTIS: And I really believe that on the day when they are alone in that voting booth, that they will remember what he said and meant what he said. And I hope that they will just realize that that would be a terrible, terrible vote to make for women, minorities, people of color, people of different religions, and nationalities, this man has done nothing but ridicule, denigrate and insult people. That is not presidential, that is not what America is and whether or not a candidate is a perfect candidate-- Nobody is a perfect candidate, nobody is a perfect person. We are all flawed human beings, we are all contradictory by nature. But we have to stand by what we say and do, you brought up doing.
For Curtis to claim that Hillary “stands by” what she “says and does” is ironic, considering Clinton denied lying to the American people about sending classified information over her personal server and she lied about Comey’s findings in the FBI investigation.
The actress and author then stated what she considered the key difference between the two candidates:
CURTIS: And I just believe that she is a candidate of a life of service to other people. Women, children, education, health care. And he is a candidate that is representing capitalism and misogyny and lies and bigotry, and to me that -- it's almost impossible to imagine that we are having this conversation.
Smiley responded he was “glad” Curtis went political because he had “wanted to go there.”
Later on, Curtis added that Clinton winning the election was “no guarantee” but she hoped that Americans would focus on her “attributes, her gravitas, her intelligence, her actions” and later adding, “her experience, strength, and hope,” that she would win the election.
