In the midst of covering Tuesday night’s Democratic debate, on Wednesday, all three network morning shows excitedly shared the news that far-left New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and radical Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar would be endorsing socialist Senator Bernie Sanders for President. None of the extreme views or scandals of either left-wing lawmaker were mentioned.
“Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders has a new endorsement this morning,” remarked on NBC’s Today show, turning to correspondent Peter Alexander for details. Alexander gushed:
Bernie Sanders is back and he’s actually touting a pair of new endorsements from prominent progressives this morning. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a rising Democratic star, one of the most influential voices on the left. She is planning to endorse Sanders during a rally to take place in New York City this weekend. Also this morning, we have learned from the campaign that Ilhan Omar, the congresswoman from Minnesota, will be endorsing Sanders as well.
He repeated the news in 8:00 a.m. ET hour, reiterating Sanders was “rolling out a pair of prominent new endorsements, including one from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, that progressive, a rising star in the Democratic Party, one of the most influential voices on the left...”
On ABC’s Good Morning America, correspondent Linsey Davis touted: “Now we’ve also learned that at least two of the congresswomen of the so-called Squad, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, plan to endorse Senator Bernie Sanders for president.” Co-host George Stephanopoulos added: “Ilhan Omar as well.”

Meanwhile, the night ended with big news for Bernie Sanders, who earned the endorsement of two well-known liberals. Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar announced that she’s backing his presidential bid and CBS News has learned that New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is set to endorse Sanders on Saturday. That’s a big get for him given that she has a wide national following and was also hotly pursued by Senator Warren.
The journalists refused to label Ocasio-Cortez and Omar controversial or suggest that their endorsement could be a political liability.
