Overnight Star Wendy Davis Condemns Politicians Using Abortion Issue 'To Boost Their Own Political Aspirations'

Latest dispatch from the Department of Pot-Meet-Kettle. On today's Face the Nation, Texas state senator Wendy Davis, who overnight went from being a national unknown to a rising star who today appeared on count-em three Sunday talk shows, has accused politicians of using the abortion issue "to boost their own political aspirations."

Davis also accused Texas Governor Rick Perry and Lt. Governor David Dewhurst of putting thousands of Texas women "in harm's way in order for them to step up the political ladder." Bob Schieffer never called Davis on her hypocrisy. View the video after the jump.

Schieffer himself introduced Davis by saying: "few outside Texas knew of her until last week when she became an overnight sensation. When Wendy Davis spent 11 hours filibustering a bill to put new limits on abortion in the Texas senate, the nation took notice." Apparently the irony of her words was lost on Davi—and Schieffer.

Do some anti-abortion politicians use the issue to advance their ambitions?  Of course: I did say they were politicians.  But for Davis to cast such aspersions on her opponents, while ignoring the way the issue has worked to brighten her own political star, was breathtaking.

Schieffer never called Davis on her hypocrisy.

WENDY DAVIS: You know, I think really what's happening here, Bob, is politicians are using this issue to boost their own political aspirations, their own political aspirations, their own political ambitions . . .  Thousands and thousands of women, will no longer have access to this safe reproductive health care. And we all know what happens in the context of the lack of that access. We've seen it before in our country's history and I fear that for their political ambitions Governor Perry and Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst are willing to cast that aside, put women in harm's way, in order for them to step up on the political ladder.
