Joe Scarborough still occasionally describes himself as a "conservative," but at least when it comes to health care it sure sounds like Joe is all-in with the liberals.
On today's Morning Joe, a palpably PO-d Scarborough furiously criticized the way the candidates in last night's Democrat debate focused on the details that divided them on health care. Instead, insisted, Scarborough, they should focus on the big picture. An angry Scarborough ranted:
JOE SCARBOROUGH: I am astounded, just politically. I am astounded. This is the third Democratic debate where they spent at least the first third of that debate pounding each other on technocratic niceties regarding their health care plans. Really. America doesn’t care. Let me say that again. Twitter cares, policy analysts care, but at the end of the day here’s the deal:
The Democratic Party supports universal health care as a right for all Americans!. Donald Trump wants to destroy your right to having health care as an American! A guarantee of that health care. He has spent every day in office -- Republican attorney generals have spent every day over the past three years, Republicans in Congress have spent every day trying to strip away your guaranteed right to have coverage for preexisting conditions, to have coverage for your older children, to have the coverage that you were afforded under the Affordable Care Act.
And yet Democrats tear themselves from limb to limb. You have Castro accusing Joe Biden of losing his memory. You’ve got Bernie Sanders screaming until he’s hoarse at other people about how he’s the only one who really cared. I mean, the insanity of it all, that it — that — I mean, Kamala finally got to the point where she said, hey, we all support universal healthcare! Donald Trump doesn’t! Okay? He doesn't!
Ask a few Canadians or Brits about a "guarantee" of health care. And that the "guarantee" might be a six-month waiting line.
Scarborough might claim he was merely making a strategic suggestion to the Democrats, not necessarily embracing their approach to health care. But Scarborough came across like Bernie Sanders on steroids. This was the passion of a true liberal believer, not the bloodless recommendation of a campaign consultant.
Note: On a day when the Morning Joe crew denounced Julian Castro for going after Biden's age by repeatedly suggesting he was "forgetting" what he had said, Scarborough had a senior moment of his own. Scarborough said that by getting bogged down in the health care details, Democrats were encouraging viewers to switch over to Wheel of Fortune, where, Scarborough wrongly exulted, "Trebek is back." Willie Geist gently corrected "Sajak. Sajak. And Trebek is back. Back to back."
Whoopsie!
