The liberal media is exulting in dancing on what it presumes to be Donald Trump's political grave.
Take today's Morning Joe. Joe Scarborough, noting a poll showing Trump with an historically low approval rating, and playing off the title of the Al Pacino movie, Scent of a Woman, Joe claimed that Jonathan Lemire has a movie title for Trump: Whiff of a Loser.
The panel proceeded to run the gag into the ground, with Joe repeating it multiple times, and Mika Brzezinski, Lemire himself, and Willie Geist each mentioning it.
The liberal media might be laughing out of the other side of its mouth if indeed its dream comes true, with Trump failing to recapture the GOP nomination. That could lead to Ron DeSantis, or another Republican without Trump's baggage, winning the nomination and presidency in 2024.
Hey Joe: when it comes to the Whiff of a Loser, maybe you should look—or smell—in the mirror. Morning Joe continues to get trounced in the polls by Fox & Friends! And don't try to downplay your ratings loss by claiming Fox & Friends is simply an old-folks hangout. In fact, in the coveted 25-54 demographic, the Fox & Friends audience more than doubles that of Morning Joe!
Note: As you'll see in the screencap, Mika flinched uncomfortably when Willie mentioned the name of the Pacino movie: Scent of a Woman. She demanded to know, "where is this going?"
Geist did make a fair point about the Ron DeSantis buzz, and how we are very early in the presidential cycle. Willie noted that in 2008, Rudy Giuliani looked like the presumptive candidate and president. Giuliani's strategy was to ignore the early primary states and focus on Florida. When he finished third there, he promptly dropped out of the race.
On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough claiming that Jonathan Lemire had created "Whiff of a Loser" as a movie title for Donald Trump was sponsored in part by Liberty Mutual, GlaxoSmithKline, maker Trelegy, E*Trade, and Abbott, maker of Rinvoq,

MSNBC's Morning Joe
12/15/22
6:02 a.m. ETJOE SCARBOROUGH: That's really something. You even look at The Hill headline this morning about a Quinnipiac poll that has Donald Trump at his lowest approval rating since 2015. He's down to 31%. Um, I heard, I heard Lemire coming in. You know, you got the movie, I think it was a Pacino movie: Scent of a Lady.
WILLIE GEIST: Scent of a Woman. Classic.
SCARBOROUGH: Scent of a Woman. Yeah, Scent of a --
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Where's this going?
SCARBOROUGH: Scent of a Woman. Well, Lemire has a movie title for Donald Trump: Whiff of a Loser.
BRZEZINSKI: I did hear that.
SCARBOROUGH: He said, he said, he's got the Whiff of a Loser.
(....)
Scent of a Woman. Whiff of a Loser, starring Donald Trump.
(....)
BRZEZINSKI: Presidential historian Jon Meacham is with us this morning, and the host of Way Too Early—his next book is called Whiff of a Loser --
SCARBOROUGH: Whiff of a Loser.
BRZEZINSKI: -- White House bureau chief at Politico, Jonathan Lemire.
(....)
JONATHAN LEMIRE: You'd rather be Ron DeSantis at this moment than Donald Trump. And certainly, on Trump, people around him are sort of baffled at the utter inertia. Nothing's happened! He hasn't had a campaign. We just ticked through all those missteps which has given him this Whiff of a Loser, including the election failures in the midterms.
But after his terrible announcement and a few misguided dinners with white supremacists, and Truth Social posts in which he says he wants to terminate the Constitution, he hasn't done anything!
(....)
WILLIE GEIST: And guys, just to put an exclamation point on the DeSantis conversation, remember that in 2008, Rudy Giuliani was a lock for the nomination. He felt like, he looked like the guy who should be the nominee and should be the president.
It's very early, and DeSantis is only the alternative to Donald Trump right now. We'll see if more Republicans smell the weakness on Donald Trump, or the Whiff of a Loser as Lemire put it, and say, maybe I should get in the race, too.
