There are devils, Evil devils. Nixonian evil devils. And then there's Donald Trump. He takes evil to "a new level." That was the Morning Joe take today.
Host Joe Scarborough said that Richard Nixon "used to be seen as the embodiment of evil by many in the Oval Office."
Scarborough then quoted the unhinged leftist Hunter S. Thompson:
"Richard Nixon was an evil man, evil in a way that only those who believe in the physical reality of the devil can understand. He was utterly without any ethics or morals, or any bedrock sense of decency."
But Scarborough took issue with Thompson. According to Joe, there's a new champ of the evil presidents on the block. Said Scarborough:
"Actually, all these years later, after six years of Donald Trump, I would say that not only Richard Nixon, but just about every president that preceded the 45th president, obviously deserves a relook. This is a new level."
Biden speechwriter and MSNBC regular Jon Meacham seconded Scarborough's take, exclaiming "absolutely," and saying that Nixon "broke the law, and then he followed the law. He had a sense of shame. He believed in institutions....The Supreme Court said he had to hand [the tapes] over. He did, and that was it."
Trump can only hope that someone soon comes along to displace him as the most evil president in the world. This is the way the "mainstream media" deals with Republicans. Nixon was the summit of evil, until he died and a new hate object arrived. Here's a greater sense of the hate that Hunter Thompson uncorked...as an obituary:
If the right people had been in charge of Nixon's funeral, his casket would have been launched into one of those open-sewage canals that empty into the ocean just south of Los Angeles. He was a swine of a man and a jabbering dupe of a president. Nixon was so crooked that he needed servants to help him screw his pants on every morning. Even his funeral was illegal. He was queer in the deepest way. His body should have been burned in a trash bin.
On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough saying that compared to Richard Nixon, Donald Trump takes "evil" to a new level was sponsored in part by Liberty Mutual, Sleep Number, and E*Trade.
Here's the transcript.
MSNBC's Morning Joe
12/20/22
6:05 a.m. ETJOE SCARBOROUGH: Liz Cheney focused, as she has for some time, on the 187 minutes where Donald Trump sat in the Oval Office, sat in the room beside the Oval Office, and watched these rioters, while his children, while his other family members, while his closest aides, while his lawyers, were begging him to act and stop the riots. And Donald Trump refused to do it for 187 minutes.
You know, Jon Meacham, Hunter Thompson once said of Richard Nixon, who used to be seen as the embodiment of evil by many in the Oval Office. He said, Richard Nixon was an evil man, evil in a way that only those who believe in the physical reality of the devil can understand. He was utterly without any ethics or morals, or any bedrock sense of decency.
Actually, all these years later, after six years of Donald Trump, I would say that not only Richard Nixon, but just about every president that preceded the 45th president, obviously deserves a relook. This is a new level.
JON MEACHAM: Absolutely. Yeah. In fact I'm glad you went back to that era. You know, the thing about Richard Nixon is, he broke the law, and then he followed the law. He had a sense of shame. He believed in institutions. He, after he asked if there was any air in the Supreme Court decision that forced him to release evidence that he had created and then refused to destroy. The Supreme Court said he had to hand it over. He did, and that was it. And he followed the institution and the law.
