With ABC still struggling to find a conservative woman to take over for the fierce Meghan McCain on The View, Sara Haines seemed to be uninterested in that search as she told ABC chief anchor George Stephanopoulos on Wednesday’s Good Morning America that her “dream” new co-host would be two-time failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
After some questions to promote the new season of Haines’ game show, The Chase, the former Clinton lackey pivoted to talking about The View. “Right now, there’s still an open seat on the co-host panel. What are your dream co-hosts,” Stephanopoulos wondered.
Without missing a beat, Haines declared “I would love for Hillary Clinton to sit in.” “I know she would never come permanently,” she admitted. Stephanopoulos seemed relieved she came to that realization on her own, scoffing “I was going to say, do you think she'd do it?”
Haines went on to fawn about how Clinton “has such a wealth of knowledge” and how she loves to listen to her:
I don't know but when she comes on to that set even when the cameras are off we are grilling her with questions. She's just so different in person and she has such a wealth of knowledge that to sit there and look at hot topics, I don't know if I'd chime in. I mean, I wouldn't have that -- I'd want to listen to what she said but I love every time she comes.
Surprisingly, Stephanopoulos asked Haines about the “controversial” Hot Topics segment of the shows and “How do you learn to navigate it?”
Her advice was to not really say anything and let the other spout off:
To listen. To listen more. I think it's easier when you're on TV and there's nerves and adrenaline. You come in and know what you want to say but so often the best way to handle that table is to listen to what other people are saying and then respond. It definitely makes you stronger in your beliefs because either someone sways you or you double down and say, wow, I think I'm going to stay where I am on this.
There’s a reason Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, and Joy Behar drive so much of the outrageous and hateful content that comes out of the show.
As for the selection of a conservative woman who could fill McCain’s old seat, they’ve been sort of bouncing back and forth between former Trump White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah Griffin, who’s honestly been rather squishy with defending conservative and Republican policies, and Lindsey Granger, host of Daily Blast Live.
In a recent appearance in March, Granger schooled the liberal co-host on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s record regarding her representation of Guantanamo Bay terrorists. And on May 6, she confronted Hostin after Hostin said black Republicans were an “oxymoron.” “I have many conservative values that I will talk to you about,” Granger said at one point.
