Was this a gag or was ABC Live star Michael Strahan serious?
On ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday, Strahan said there was watermelon in his dressing room when he got there (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):
Midway through the interview, Strahan said, "Speaking of, you know, black characters on our show, when I got here there was watermelon in my dressing room."
This evoked laughter from the studio audience as well as Kimmel who said, "There was?"
"Yeah," Strahan replied. "There was watermelon, and I know it's not even watermelon season. So I was like, 'Is Jimmy trying to tell me something?' And then I finished it all. Thank you for the watermelon, man. I know you went out of your way to get it."
When he finished laughing, Kimmel said, "Now I'm praying our next guest Miles got watermelon too."
Kimmel's next guest was Miles Teller, and right out of the gate, Kimmel asked, "Was there watermelon in the dressing room?"
Teller thought for a few seconds and said, "No, no."
Kimmel laughed and said to the audience, "There better have been watermelon in that dressing room"
"Strawberries, grapes, not watermelon. Absolutely not," Teller added.
So, was this a gag, or was there really watermelon left in Strahan's dressing room and not Teller's?
If the latter, would Strahan have joked about it if he was a guest on say a Fox News program?
Yes, that was a rhetorical question.
