ABC News political analyst and former George W. Bush camapign official Matthew Dowd decided not to wait until Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and accuser Christine Blasey Ford testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Instead, Dowd not only hammered the current nominee, but he also reached all the way back to 1991 and stated that Clarence Thomas has at least one thing in common with Kavanaugh: They’re both “sexual predators.”
The clash began in a tweet from Dowd on Monday:
It was despicable and outrageous what happened to Anita Hill more than 25 years ago, and a sexual predator was given a lifetime seat on the SC.
Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself in 2018.
That outburst caught the attention of our friends at Right Scoop, who responded by noting that Dowd “clearly already has it in for Kavanaugh regarding these sexual assault allegations.”
“Note how he smears Clarence Thomas [as] a ‘sexual predator’ in order to make his overall point,” an action that was then described as “disgusting.”
“As [John] Nolte over at Breitbart pointed out, at worst Hill’s allegations of Thomas amounted to sexual harassment,” with “nothing reaching the level of a sexual predator.”
“And let me remind you that Hill couldn’t even pass a lie detector test on her accusations against Thomas,” Right Scoop added. “Yet this moron is calling Thomas a sexual predator and suggesting that Kavanaugh may be one, too.” Dowd continued:
Enough with the “he said, she said” storyline. If this is he said, she said, then let’s believe the she in these scenarios. She has nothing to gain, and everything to lose. For 250 years, we have believed the he in these scenarios. Enough is enough.
“Sure, let’s just ignore Kavanaugh’s side of the story because he’s a male,” Right Scoop responded sarcastically before branding Dowd an “idiot.”
Erick Erickson responded to a an attack from Dowd by tweeting that Ford did indeed have something to gain from the situation:
Nothing to gain except being a hero to the left for stopping a conservative from getting on the court. Look at how the left has held up Anita Hill as a martyr to their cause.
Dowd quickly replied: “Look at this, folks. The trashing of another courageous woman continues.”
“Dowd is just horrible,” the conservative blogger continued. “He bases everything he feels about this on things that have nothing to do with the actual case itself.”
Not to be outdone, Dowd later fired off some even more outrageous posts:
One thing that has happened over the last few years is that it has opened my eyes to the level of sexism, racism, and misogyny that still exists in America. Time is up for us all to do something about this.
Here is one step to heal the country: President Trump withdraws the Kavanaugh nomination, and substitutes Merrick Garland instead. Since gop went out of their way to say Garland and kavanaugh sided together 90% of the time, then they should have no problem.
And going totally over the top, Dowd dragged climate change into the discussion: “If the gop leaders don’t believe 1000 scientists regarding climate change, why would we expect them to believe one woman from Palo Alto?”
It’s particularly interesting that decades after the Anita Hill incident, Dowd still considers Clarence Thomas a sexual predator. Apparently, some things never change -- even if they should have decades ago.
