Lazy GMA: ABC Replays the Same Trump Segment 24 Hours Later

August 11th, 2015 10:56 AM

Laziness or just an incompetent screw-up? On Tuesday, the journalists at Good Morning America replayed the exact same segment (in its entirety) on Donald Trump that ABC used on Monday morning. This, despite the fact that one of the statements within the story is out of date and inaccurate. On Monday, reporter Tom Llamas announced, "This morning, Donald Trump marching on, trying to move beyond his fight with Fox News and stay at the top of the polls."

On Tuesday, Llamas, in the prepackaged story, repeated, "This morning, Donald Trump marching on, trying to move beyond his fight with Fox News and stay at the top of the polls." On both days, the journalist insisted of Megyn Kelly: "She hasn't spoken about his latest statements."

That may have been accurate on Monday morning, but it wasn't on Tuesday. Kelly addressed the situation on her Monday night show. After the pre-taped GMA segment on Tuesday, Llamas corrected the error, allowing, "Now last night, Megyn Kelly did address those comments."

For comparison, part of Monday's segment:

TOM LLAMAS: On Friday, before Trump's blood comments, Kelly said she treated all the candidates fairly.

MEGYN KELLY: He felt attacked. It wasn't an attack. It was a fair question.

LLAMAS: She hasn't spoken about his latest statements, but now his fellow candidates piling on. Jeb Bush condemning Trump's words at a gathering in Atlanta, which disinvited Trump after the comments.

JEB BUSH: Do we want to insult 53 percent of all voters? What Donald Trump said is wrong.

LLAMAS: And Carly Fiorina, the only female Republican candidate, tweeting, "Mr. Trump, there is no excuse."

It isn't uncommon for something from the previous night's World News to air again on the next day's GMA. But it's very odd to repeat the entire segment 24 hours later.

So, what happened here? Are the hosts and producers of the notoriously superficial GMA becoming lazier, just replaying segments? Or was there some behind-the scenes error?
