Considering how contemptuous our society has become towards the founding American culture, an earnest National Treasure reboot probably could never happen. Gone are the days where a movie about Nicolas Cage feasting his eyes in awe and respect on some long-lost document written by George Washington or Benjamin Franklin could ever be taken seriously.
BUT, the woke overlords at Disney have decided that they can do a National Treasure reboot of sorts, provided that it’s woke and inclusive enough. Presumably, our new protagonist would travel to exotic locales to uncover ancient wisdom that he can burn and rid the world of.
Just imagine Nicolas Cage saying, ”I’m going to steal the Declaration of Independence ... and burn it.” There, now the premise works for this era.
Jokes aside, (though we aren’t joking, really) this sort of thing is apparently coming down the pike from some of the same people who gave us the original two movies. Pop culture and entertainment outlet BoundingIntoComics.com reported that “Disney alongside producer Jerry Bruckheimer and writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley will be reimagining the National Treasure franchise.”
Disney and Bruckheimer brought us the first installments and they are facilitating the franchise’s new woke inversion, having hired an Indian-America female director named Mira Nai to helm the film. The upcoming project will also feature a female protagonist, named Jesse Morales. OK. Interesting. Does the news get worse? Oh definitely.
Apparently, the reboot will be a woke-ified Disney+ series that will explore “the timely issues of identity, community, historical authorship and patriotism.” Nerd outlet TheVerge.com seemed positive about the idea, stating, “A reboot that’s willing to more critically examine America’s place in history could be an interesting new spin on the franchise.” Yeah, let the erosion of respect for our country in pop culture commence!
The potential for wokeness of the upcoming reboot is staggering. It’s not just a few minor tweaks, it literally looks to be like leftwing programming. Check out this description of the new project’s premise from the website, which was originally taken from Deadline: “a twenty-year-old DREAMer [Morales] who, with her diverse group of friends, sets off on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover her mysterious family history and recover lost treasure.”
So an illegal immigrant and her presumably pro-BLM, pro-LGBTQ crazy friends are going to go on archaeological digs for historically significant artifacts? What will they uncover? Proof that Latin Americans secretly wrote the Constitution, and that our bloodthirsty white supremacist founding fathers had them assassinated and plagiarized their work?
Or will it be as simple as finding the one long lost clause of our Constitution that said that slavery is a human right in America, thus rendering the nobility of the American experiment obsolete?
Each of those storylines sound totally plausible, considering our barreling toward an increasingly 1984-style society. Disney seems all too enthusiastic about making our future dystopia happen as soon as possible.
