Appearing on Thursday’s edition of Newsmax Prime on Newsmax TV, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell joined host and former GOP Congressman J.D. Hayworth (Ariz.) to discuss the latest studies from the MRC concerning the media’s lack of criticism for President Barack Obama’s foreign policy and their obsession with alleged incidents of police misconduct.
Concerning the scant 43 seconds of airtime during the May network evening newscasts dedicated to criticism of Obama on ISIS, Bozell blasted this as “an atrocity in of itself” and a further indication that the liberal media “are simply not going to cover news if it hurts the narrative of this administration.”
As the Media Research Center’s Rich Noyes reported, the coverage of ISIS on the evening newscasts of ABC, CBS, and NBC doubled from April to May but viewers “heard virtually no criticism of President Obama’s handling of ISIS – just 43 seconds in a pair of NBC Nightly News stories, or less than one percent of the coverage.”
Later, Hayworth shifted gears to discuss with Bozell another new study by the MRC that detailed the media’s continued fixation on alleged incidents of police misconduct and how roughly three incidents involving police (in Baltimore, Cleveland, and Madison, Wisconsin) translated to nearly 109 minutes of coverage in May.
When asked to comment on what he made of this obsession, Bozell decried this craze as part of “a far-left” infatuation with this issue and that “the media are feeding into this.”
While he maintained that “any form of police misconduct that is rises to the national level should be covered,” the MRC president asserted that “for every instance of misconduct, there are probably a 100 instances of great conduct” that the media aren’t covering.
In his final comments, Bozell concluded: “More to three incidents than to a war? To a world-wide war against the biggest terror threat in the history of man? There’s more interest in three cops? This is – this is unreal.”
