Things got spicy between the two former party chairs on ABC This Week with George Stephanopoulos, hosted this week by its namesake Clintonite flack, over Eric Trump saying that Democrats were behind the attempted assassinations of former President Donald Trump.
Watch as former RNC chair Reince Priebus and his DNC counterpart Donna Brazile argue over violent rhetoric (click “expand”):
ABC THIS WEEK
10/6/24
9:41 AM
DONNA BRAZILE: We need both political parties, both leaders. Do not go out there and blame Haitians. Do not go out there and blame immigrants and migrants. That is the rhetoric we hear every day, and if you cannot -- you cannot say that Joe Biden won this election? Joe Biden won the election, then you should not…
REINCE PRIEBUS: This show is not a monologue, Donna.
BRAZILE: …you are not…It’s the floodgate of lies.
REINCE PRIEBUS: The rest of matter is people have different opinions.
BRAZILE: It’s the floodgate of lies. Lies.
PRIEBUS: And the fact of the matter is…
BRAZILE: Lies.
REINCE: This is a former president and his son that number one, came extremely close to losing his life and losing his father. Okay? He's been called a threat to democracy from the very beginning. They got rid of a sitting president to fulfill their message that he's a threat to democracy, in order to save this country. They had a sitting president step down, put in a vice president in the summer. This is how they feel about it, and this is how everyone on the Democratic Party feels about it.
BRAZILE: Oh, I will pray for him…
PRIEBUS: So don't sit here and act like holier than thou…
BRAZILE: I'm not holy, baby.
PRIEBUS: …that…that…that somehow you have a corner on this message.
BRAZILE: I'm telling the truth. The floodgate of lies.
PRIEBUS: Because you don't.
BRAZILE: And you don’t.
PRIEBUS: And that's why you're not winning -- that's why Harris is behind and that's why she's going to lose. It's the rhetoric.
BRAZILE: She's not behind.
PRIEBUS: People aren’t buying the rhetoric.
BRAZILE: She’s not behind…
PRIEBUS: People are not buying the rhetoric.
BRAZILE: We’re not buying the lies.
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Why can't you say…why can’t you simply say that blaming Democrats for the assassination…
PRIEBUS: I would not blame Democrats.!
STEPHANOPOULOS: Just say it's wrong.
PRIEBUS: I just said it, OK? But it's also wrong to paint the President of the United States …President Trump…
BRAZILE: The former president!
PRIEBUS: As this threat to democracy that's going to end the United States of America. What does that do to people's heads when you do that? What does it do to millions- hundreds of millions of people in America? It has an effect, guys!
BRAZILE: What does that do to legal immigrants? What does that do to legal immigrants when you know you're lying?
PRIEBUS: It has an effect.
BRAZILE: What does it do to kids trying to go to school?
PRIEBUS: We’re talking about the President of the United States practically getting killed. That’s the topic.
BRAZILE: And we all condemn that.
PRIEBUS: You’re- you’re hitting 20 different topics at once.
BRAZILE: The Democrats condemned that, but the lies- the floodgate of lies must stop.
PRIEBUS: What lies- like that President Trump’s going to monitor women's pregnancies? Oh, that's Project 2025. It has nothing to do with President Trump, but you know what? It's a good talking point for the Democrats so they keep saying it. They lie all the time.
BRAZILE: Oh, wow.
Periodic reminder that all this garment-rending from Democrats and their Regime Media allies is over the words of someone whose loved one, to put it in terms the Left can understand, was almost the victim of gun violence. It is often the case that the Regime Media showcases these relatives as unimpeachable advocates for whatever policy they may be advocating for at the time, whether gun control or abortion on demand. But such advocacy and rhetoric is apparently off limits to the Trump family, notwithstanding their being spared of watching their patriarch’s head explode on national TV due to a providential last-second turn.
Brazile uses her allotted time on a question about Special counsel Jack Smith’s October Surprise filing in order to pontificate on Trump’s statement. At that point, Priebus had had enough, and let Brazile have it over the sum of incitetful rhetoric spewed by the Left.
It bears noting that the second Trump shooter literally tweeted “Democracy is on the ballot”, a common talking point that still gets repeated. Neither Trump the Younger nor Priebus are wrong.
The left is regurgitating violent rhetoric, with help from their allies in the Regime Media. The fact is that they're not as mad about the rhetoric as they are about getting called out over it.
