For the second night in a row, MSNBC host Chris Matthews ignored the new Quinnipiac University poll showing Hillary Clinton trailing in key swing states to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) as well as Gov. Scott Walker (R-Wis.) and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
The same poll shows Mrs. Clinton with terrible marks related to her honesty.
And it's not as though Matthews was completely avoiding polling data altogether on tonight's program.
Indeed, in his first segment, an interview via satellite with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Matthews cited poll movement in the Washington Post/ABC News poll regarding 2016 GOP presidential primary contenders, telling Cruz that Trump was "up 20 points since May" while other contenders suffered downswings accordingly.
In a later segment, talking with his roundtable panel, Matthews insisted regarding polling data (emphasis mine):
I believe in polls. I don't buy the fact they're just, if you don't like the results, you throw them out. You look at results, we used to say in politics, "Pay attention." You don't have to always, just act on polls. If something's coming out, don't act like that didn't happen. It's somewhere, Paul [Singer of USA Today], in your thinking. So why is Trump bouncing all these other candidates?
Matthews should listen to his own advice and cover Hillary's campaign woes, even though doing so doesn't comport to the liberal campaign narrative he and his network would rather broadcast.
