In a week where the networks have reported sympathetically towards illegal immigrants benefiting from President Obama’s immigration policies, they ignored a significant House hearing that revealed the terrible effects of these policies. Two mothers of teenagers murdered by illegal immigrants pleaded with Congress to step up enforcement of immigration policies and protect innocent Americans from criminal gangs entering the U.S. illegally.
The two mothers, Laura Wilkerson from Texas, and Michelle Root from Nebraska, testified before Congress, calling on them to beef up immigration enforcement, after both their children were murdered by illegal aliens.
Despite each of the killer’s criminal pasts, immigration officials let these men go time and time again, until their crimes ended in murder.
Wilkerson’s son Josh was methodically tortured, beaten and strangled in 2010 by an illegal alien, Hermilo Moralez, whom he offered to give a ride home from school. Moralez burned Wilkerson’s body and dumped his body before going to see a movie.
Root’s daughter Sarah was killed by a drunk driver, Edwin Mejia, who, before killing Root, could never be detained by immigration officials because the Obama Administration guidelines deemed Mejia “not a threat to public safety.” Meijia was arrested but released after posting just 5,000 bond and is currently at the top of ICE’s most wanted fugitive list, according to The Hill.
Rep. Trey Gowdy also testified, calling out the media and the administration’s hypocritical response to this issue.
"This administration loves to talk about families being separated,” Gowdy stated. But, he noted, “they are not talking about the families sitting at the table this morning. They are not talking about the separation that comes from burying your child."
It’s true that the networks and the administration have virtually ignored these heartbreaking stories. Instead ABC, NBC and CBS decided to evoke sympathy for illegal immigrant families at the Supreme Court this week, who worry about being deported after Obama leaves office.
Just like they did with Kate Steinle, the big three networks shift the focus off of Democrats and try to bash the GOP for wanting to enforce immigration laws.
Similarly, both Univision and Telemundo completely omitted the hearings. Instead of offering even a news brief on the matter, Univision chose to devote ample time to several anti-law enforcement (alleged police brutality) stories, while Telemundo cheered Nebraska granting occupational licenses to undocumented immigrants.
One mother, Laura Wilkerson agreed that the sympathy has been placed on the wrong party.
“And you talked about fear, you know that illegals are afraid to come out of the shadows. When somebody reaches in your house and grabs your littlest kid and tortures them, you’re afraid of everything for a long time. I could care less about the fear that they put themselves in here. I didn’t bring my kid across a border.”
She emphasized the need for Congress to stand up for the citizens who elected them.
“Every one of you is elected by an American. It is time for you to stand in the gap for Americans,” she stated.
