As President Ronald Reagan famously said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government, and I'm here to help.” And yet that’s exactly what CNN and NBC praised President Biden for doing during his first primetime address on Thursday. Both liberal outlets showered the President with gooey adulations as they thanked him for the revival of their faith the twisted religion of big government.
CNN chief political analyst Gloria Borger paraphrased Biden’s comments and lauded his message that big government was swooping in to answer prayers and save the day. “And I think part of his message was ‘We're here to help you. Government is not the deep state.’ As he said, you know, ‘it's not some capital somewhere,’” she touted.
Continuing to speak as the President, Borger marveled at how Biden tried to “restore your trust and your faith” in the leviathan.
She added: “You know, he said, ‘we're here to help you. And so, you have to believe me, you have to restore your trust and your faith in what we are doing, and understand we're not lying to you and we want you to get the vaccine, not because of any political statement, we want you to wear a mask, not because of a political statement but because it will save lives and get us out of this pandemic.’”
Liberal activist and CNN political commentary Van Jones built off of Borger to chide the “kind of cheaper patriotism that separates the American people from America's government.”
“And he said, ‘the government is us. It's a democracy. The government is us,’” he boasted, also paraphrasing the President. “And he's calling for a whole of government and whole of society approach. And when he's bragging on those competitors, I've got two corporations that are competing and they're helping us, we're working together. Those are the kind of touches that kind of just subtlety suggest maybe we can start helping each other.”
Over on NBC, political director Chuck Todd essentially gave Biden credit for the coronavirus vaccine even though the new administration largely stuck to the original distribution timetable for the first 100 days. And as if a second term of a Trump administration wouldn’t have ramped up production.
“So look, on paper, they have not set any promises they haven't met yet,” Todd claimed, ignoring Biden’s capitulation to teachers’ unions who denied the science of the safety of schools. “And that to me is probably the biggest theme of this speech, is that what the President is trying to sell is competency.”
Todd proceeded to give his comments from the church of government’s pulpit:
He's trying to say, “Look, we know you lost a little bit of faith in government and maybe you've lost a little bit of faith in – but look what we're doing. And this is what government does when it does well.”
I thought it was fascinating that he mentioned the Mars Perseverance/ He's trying to say, “See, these are things, when you follow science, you get the vaccine, competent government can do big things.”
“So, I thought thematically, the important thing for me was him selling the good that he believes government can do,” he cheered.

NBC Presidential Speech
March 11, 2021
8:26:57 p.m. EasternLESTER HOLT: Chuck, the President really set his 100-day bars early on. How is he in terms of meeting them right now?
CHUCK TODD: Well, what are we on, day 51? The fact that they're able to say they've got this rescue plan, and how -- Basically the plan he submitted to Congress is essentially the plan that got handed back to him, very minor tweaks. The vaccine manufacturing and distribution has been ramped up even faster than they said.
So look, on paper, they have not set any promises they haven't met yet. And that to me is probably the biggest theme of this speech, is that what the President is trying to sell is competency.
