Over a two-week period, the principal national evening newscasts of the nation’s leading Spanish-language television networks, Univision and Telemundo, dedicated over an hour of coverage to Donald Trump sex talk and subsequent allegations of misconduct by various women, in comparison to just over 12 minutes to the avalanche of red flags about Hillary Clinton and her campaign that have been brought to light by WikiLeaks.
From the evening of October 7 to October 20, 2016, Univision and Telemundo devoted 63 minutes combined to the 2005 Access Hollywood video of Donald Trump and the ensuing allegations of sexual improprieties, compared with 12 minutes on the treasure trove of explosive Clinton e-mail revelations, including indications of corruption at various levels, transcripts of previously unreleased speeches and disparaging comments against major religious groups.
In the breakdown by network, Telemundo actually took top honors in the lopsided ratio of coverage of sex-scandal related Trump news, dedicating 27 minutes and 55 seconds to the subject, compared to Univision 35 minutes and 46 seconds during the period under study.
Telemundo only dedicated 4 minutes and 15 seconds to the rash of WikiLeaks’ negative Clinton news, while Univision devoted 7 minutes and 56 seconds to the subject.
The pattern is in keeping with one of the many important revelations in the emails released by WikiLeaks: that the vast majority of the national media, including NBC-owned Telemundo and Univision, chaired by one of Clinton’s top donors, has been acting in collusion with the Clinton campaign to orchestrate a favorable electoral outcome for the Democratic presidential nominee.
